IRLP - Keeping the Radio
in Amateur Radio |
After discussions with a few net control ops, in addition to a few
users, I've decided to change the net listing procedure from UTC start
times, and have settled on listing all starting times as Eastern Time,
whether EST or EDT. Essentially this is due to the fact that
while the starting time for most nets doesn't change, the changeover
from Standard to Daylight Savings Time meant that the UTC time changed
twice per year, and had the potential to be incorrect if I either
didn't get to it, or changed it for an area that didn't support DST. Please note, though, that if you'd like your
net listed in UTC or your local time, that's perfectly fine with me.
Whatever works best for the net is what I'm willing to do. Please don't hesitate to email me and let me know.New listings or recent changes are in boldface.
If you run a net which isn't listed here, by all means, please email me. And if
you're considering setting up a net, please contact the reflector owner
before announcing your intentions.
You can also contact me via Skype. Add VE7RJT to your contacts.
March 10: The Ontario SATERN Net has been established on 9032, Monday nights at 2100 Eastern
December 7: Unfortunately, the New International Morning Net has been cancelled as of today. No replacment net has been named at this time.
August 25: As of today, the start times for all nets are
Eastern time, unless otherwise noted. As mentioned above, if
you'd like your net time shown in UTC (or your local time zone), please
don't hesitate to let me know.

Insomniac Net
The Insomniac Net is held every night of the year (including holidays)
and has been very popular for over 26 years. Each night there is a
different net control operator. Generally, they have three or four
trivia questions with 2 multiple choice answers. Roll call of the
regular night owl members is called, then a special call for visitors
and guests is presented.
Our website is at http://www.halling.com/Insomnia.htm
LIMARC Tech Net
Our net is
hosted by Dick K2RIW for the last 20 years on our repeater.
There have been over 2000 nets on the 146.85 repeater. Past nets can be
heard at www.amateurradio.tv and our local web site for the club is
www.limarc.org. Dick has a long history in amateur radio as he is
developer of the K2RIW kilowatt amps for 2 meters and 70cm. Dick
decoded audio during the Apollo missions to the moon. We have a weekly
NASA update and letters from listeners. Subjects range from simple
electronics to complex antenna theory. We have been know to explain how
many other things (like home appliances, auto engines, chemistry .etc)
function.
Have a listen to our nets from the amateurradio site and I think you
might find it enjoyable!
Net time is Eastern, Sunday 20:00 every weekend
Net runs until 23:00 but sometimes till 00:00
Net on Node 9126
Loyalist City Amateur Radio Club (LCARC) This is a
weekly club net held at 8 p.m. local (Atlantic Time) on the VE1EE
repeater (IRLP Node 2009). There is a designated Net Controller for
each net. The purpose of opening this to a Reflector is to allow club
members who are traveling abroad to participate in our weekly net.
Although this is a Club net, visitors are welcome. The Net runs from 8
p.m. until 9 p.m. but sometimes shorter depending on the number of
check-ins. Net Control can be referred to as VE9LC, the Club call sign.
Our website is http://www.lcarc.ca
Arizona State Reflector Channel
Western reflector 9255 has been officially assigned by Kent W7AOR, as the
"Arizona State" reflector channel. This channel will be utilized for
coordination of Near Space helium balloon launches carrying amateur radio
television and cross band FM repeaters, a planned amateur radio swap
net, and for in-state emergency communications nets.
Ontario-Wide ARES Net
A new net has been established twice weekly on the IRLP.
It is the Province Wide Ontario ARES Net each Sunday and Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. local
2000 hrs. on the Vancouver Reflector ch 5. Node #9005.
A special thank you to the owner of the Reflector for providing this service to the Ontario
ARES.
Disaster Communicators Forum (DCF)
This forum is for those who recognize the need to share information:
lessons learned, preparedness planning and disaster relief
coordination. It is intended that all organizations involved in
preparedness and response, including, but not limited to ARC, ARES,
RACES, FEMA, Sky warn, Salvation Army, ERC, and Homeland Security will
participate in the Disaster Communicators Forum (DCF) for the
betterment of the whole.
The DCF Voice-over-IP (VoIP) Net meets every Sunday following the
American Red Cross Communicators Net that starts at 6 PM Pacific Time.
on EchoLink *DCF-ARC* Conference Node 336037 and IRLP Reflector 9257
which are linked together 24/7 to allow Echo link and IRLP nodes to
communicate. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DISASTER_COMMUNICATORS_FORUM/.
RailHam Net
The IRLP RailHam Net is an informal on-air gathering of hams who are railfans; that is, they enjoy railroads as a
hobby. Whether they build model train layouts, expand their photo collections of prototype trains, or research the
history of their favorite railroad, or rebuild historic locomotives, it's a great way to discuss railroads with
other hams across the U.S. and Canada via IRLP.
Kids Net
The goal of Kids Net is to provide school age kids with a
regular time and place to check in and find other kids who share their
common interest in communicating with their ham radios. Second, it is
hoped that by using their radios regularly at least once a week the
kids will keep their radio batteries charged and improve radio
communication skills. To meet these goals, we hold a controlled Net on
a local amateur radio repeater in Kirkland, Washington each Sunday
night at 8:15 PM.
Visitors are welcomed to participate and respond when requested. We
communicate on the local 2-meter repeater at 145.490 Mhz. minus offset
103.5 tone. Visitors from other areas may check in on IRLP Reflector
node #9255
Guam International Net
The Guam International Net originates out of Node 3672 from the Island of

university students, faculty, and staff (and any other amateurs in the
respective areas). Many of these clubs are short on numbers and we
hope to help by tying them together.
53.310 Swap & Ragchew Net
53.310 Swap and Ragchew Net is an informal net. It is held on the W4SNA
6m repeater near Winston-Salem, NC every Tuesday evening at 2100 local
time (Eastern US). The net was founded as a swap net so local amateurs
could list amateur radio items they had for sale or wanted to buy. The
ragchew portion was added so check-ins without listings can
participate. There are check-ins from all over northwest NC and
southwestern VA. The net typically lasts from 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Sometimes the net manager Mike, K4MDA asks an amateur radio related
technical trivia question to encourage net members to improve their
technical knowledge. The following week members give their answers
during the ragchew session. The person with the most correct answer as
determined by K4MDA gets a small amateur related door prize.
We welcome all interested amateurs to join us on the repeater or via
IRLP on reflector 9662.

The weekly net is to used to check in and exchange ideas between groups
who are using new technologies such as IRLP and APRS to name a few, to
trade off ideas to make the search techniques and communications
between great distances that we cover more reliable. This forum is open
to all interested parties and we have usual check-in's from many of the
